DCE Colloquy History

Director of Christian Education and the LCMS
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod has charged certain colleges of the Concordia University System with the task of preparing men and women to serve as Directors of Christian Education.

This preparation has led to Certification, Placement, and Installation as a Minister of Religion, Commissioned of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Over 1500 men and women have been certified for ministry as Directors of Christian Education since 1969.

Colloquy Option Approved
In 1987, The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod provided for admission to the roster of Synod as a Minister of Religion, Commissioned serving as a Director of Christian Education through an established colloquy process.

LC-MS By-Law 3.8.3.5 states that those seeking admission through Colloquy must meet the standards established by the various institutions of the Concordia University System authorized to certify Directors of Christian Education. The Director of Christian Education Certification programs of the Concordia University System strive to maintain common curricular outcomes and focus.

Colloquy and Concordia University, St. Paul
The DCE Colloquy program of Concordia University, St. Paul accomplishes the objectives of the Director of Christian Education Certification Program through an alternative delivery system.

The alternative delivery system is offered in order to enhance the work of lay specialists serving in congregations of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in roles similar to that of certified Directors of Christian Education.

Recognizing the gifts of those selected by the local congregation for service in their midst, the DCE Colloquy program seeks to strengthen this service through specialized training and credentialing mastery through life experience.
