Admission to the Major

Admission to the Major
The process for admission to the major should begin no later than the second semester of the sophomore year before registration for the following Fall semester. Transfer students who have achieved second semester sophomore status should apply during their first semester at Concordia College. The application is to be made to the Communication Department through the student's academic advisor in consultation with one of the regular Communication faculty.

Prerequisites:
In order to file for and be admitted to the major, a student must have completed the following courses or their equivalent:

COM 103 "Interpersonal and Public Communication
COM 205 "Small Group Communication & Facilitation"
COM 212 "Public Speaking and Performance"
COM 222 "Mass Communication"
ENG 120 "College Writing"

Grade Point Average:
The student's cumulative GPA in the above courses alone must be at least 2.50, the level required for graduation with the Communication major.    The transfer student's cumulative GPA in all Communication and writing courses must be at least 2.50, the level required for graduation with the Communication major. The student's cumulative GPA in all courses must be 2.00.

Essay
Students applying for admission to the Communication major will write an essay not to exceed two (2) pages indicating why they want to be a Communication major. The essay will be examined for writing competency and will also serve as a beginning for career counseling.
