The Success of Our Students

The success of any program is not measured by how many people graduate from it, though the numbers can be nice too, but by what they do with the knowledge they acquire.  We are proud to say our first class of the Honors Program has graduated and is putting their knowledge to good use.  Follow their stories as we look to where they are now.

Since graduating from Concordia in May 2010 I have moved to Jersey City, New Jersey with my husband Kevin.  We live only three miles from the lively city of New York!  In September, I started working at Bright Horizons as a School Age Teacher.  I am loving being in a new area and having a beautiful walk along the Hudson every morning looking at the Manhattan sky line.

Since my graduation in May, life has been a whirlwind of adventures.  I graduated with a degree in Family Life Education with minors in psychology and religion.  I recently received my provisional certification as a certified Family Life Educator by the National council on Family Relations.  Ater graduation I began applying and interviewing for jobs in the area surronding my husband's home in Iowa.  I got married on June 19th to my husband Jason pictured.  A month later I have begun my work as a Substance Abuse Counselor for Commuity and Family Resources in Iowa.  Community and Family Resources is a pro-active organization dedicated to assisting individuals, families, and communities in achieving healthy behaviors and lifestyles through advocacy, prevention, and treatment of substance abuse and problem gambling.  I began working as an inpatient substance abuse counselor and have recently been transferred to another office to begin the primary phases of school based pracitices.  I am bulding a program to be implement in an 11 country area that offers ways to recognize substance abuse issues in schoools and get the individuals help faster.  This is revolutionary for the organization and I am blessed to have been chosen to tackle the great feat.  I continue to work on my five year plan developed during my final semester at Concordia.  I am continuing my educational pursuits.  I am currently completing coursework for my Master's from Concordia Univeristy Wisconsin, in community counseling.  I plan to implement what I am learning in my courses to the work that I do with my clients struggling with addiction.  Also I am enjoying adapting to life in Iowa with my husband.  I would like to offer advice to not get discouraged when things don't go according to your plans.  Remember to enjoy your journey and never limit your options.

After graduating from CSP and the Honors Program in 2009 I quickly got a job with Wells Fargo Bank.  Working in the coporate/business setting allowed me to begin a Masters of Arts degree in Business and Organizational Management, which after a capstone trip to Shanghai, China, has now been completed.  While in Shanghai, I received an offer to return to Concordia to work in the Office of University Advancement, and have been working here since December, 2010.  I have gotten very involved in a series of new church plants called the Alley (based on Luke 14) located both in Cottage Grove and here in the Midway area, which has been an awesome experience.  I am considering some sort of local seminary program or a doctorate degree sometime in the next few years, but I am open and looking forward to new experiences and other exciting new opportunities that life has in store.

I graduated from Concordia in May of 2010 with a degree in Effecting Social Change.  I am currently pursuing my Masters Degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Iowa State University, where my research is focused on modern day orphanages.  After graduation, I plan to work with an international or local Christian non-profit organization that works towards social change. The experience and learning I gained from the Honors Program continues to benefit me today, and the friends I made there are some of the closet I've ever had. God's blessing to you on your journey!

After graduating from Concordia in May 2011 I will be heading down to St. Louis for seminary studies.  I'm looking forward to the new city and new experiences.  While n St. Louis I'm considering getting a degree in counseling and my pilot's license.  That would open up some options for doing counseling along with pastoral ministry or perhaps doing some missionary piloting.  The next four years of my life are locked down at seminary and it's anyone's guess where I will be after that, but I'm confident the Lord has something crazy in mind!

I graduated this May (2011) with my BBA in Marketing.  I have now moved into an apartment in uptown Minneapolis.  It's a super fun area with tons of shops and restaurants, and it's just blocks from Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet; an ideal first apartment.  I am now working at PeopleNet in Minnetonka, MN as a Marketing Communications Specialist where I have interned for the past year.  I am so thankful to have a job, especially one that I love.  I am exicted, anxious, and scared to begin the next chapter in my life, but I have strong faith that God has great things in store.
