Accounting

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree is available with an Accounting major. Because the BBA requires more business courses than a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, it is considered the degree of choice for students planning a career in accounting, better preparing students to excel in the business world.

Accounting majors benefit from close contact with instructors who have extensive practical experience in the business world. The classroom structure stresses ethics and the practical application of accounting knowledge. The major will prepare students to take the CPA exam.

During spring tax season, well-qualified Accounting majors can take advantage of the Accounting department's volunteer internship opportunity with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program run by the Minnesota Department of Revenue. The Business Club also gives students added opportunities to expand their knowledge and apply their skills.

Students who find fulfillment in this area of study enjoy working with numbers, have a willingness to work long hours when necessary, have the desire to keep current with laws and practices, are detail-oriented and have the ability to concentrate and work in high-pressure environments. Successful Accounting students and practitioners have a strong personal and professional commitment to the ethics of the profession.
