The Theatre department provides students a challenging variety of theatrical experiences that enrich their artistic, intellectual, cultural and spiritual life. Students will experience a rich blend of traditional classroom, hands-on laboratory and performance opportunities that help prepare students for entry into professional careers in theatre, graduate study or to support and strengthen their abilities and expertise in other fields such as education, business or ministry.
Concordia's fine arts center is considered one of the finest drama spaces among Midwest private universities and is the premiere theatre in the Concordia University System. The center includes the E. M. Pearson Theatre, a 340-seat proscenium theatre with a full fly loft and hydraulic orchestra pit lift, a 100-seat black box theatre laboratory, costume and scenery shops and a dance studio.
With Concordia's location in the Twin Cities - a place that boasts more theatre seats per capita than any other U.S. city outside New York City - students have an abundance of opportunities to watch, meet and work with theatre artists from around the country.
Students who find fulfillment in this area of study typically have a strong work ethic and are motivated by and excited about theatre. They must be eager to explore and learn about many areas and all forms of theatre. They also enjoy teamwork and have a desire to be involved in productions.
