Special Education

The Special Education minor at Concordia consists of 12 credits that lead to a post baccalaureate K-12 Special Education license in Learning Disabilities or Emotional Disorders. For complete teacher licensure in the state of Minnesota, students must complete their undergraduate degree, foundational courses and 13-16 credits of graduate-level coursework.

Coursework for this minor is offered online and is taught by faculty who are highly qualified in their fields. This is a personalized program in which students work very closely with faculty in developing the skills and insights necessary to become an effective special education teacher.

Concordia's Lutheran heritage sets the standard for its willingness to appreciate the unique nature of each individual and prepare students to work with those individuals. Students entering this program usually possess a high degree of empathy for individuals who have special cognitive, social, emotional or physical needs. They are also able to view learning as more than a "one size fits all" paradigm.
